frustration.

so it looks like these new gossip girl ads are creating quite a stir. especially among pro-family groups. personally, i don’t get it.
yes the ads are sexual, but they aren’t offensive. and they definitely over-represent the actual amount of sex on the show. they are intriguing but if you watch the show, the sex isn’t all over the screen. it’s alluded to more than it is shown.
second, if you don’t want your kids watching these kinds of shows then don’t let them. you have the right to raise your kids however you’d like. i certainly agree that these types of teen soaps are best for the older teen crowd, but kids aren’t stupid. they know these kinds of things happen. in fact, they learn more about this stuff from friends in school or online than they do from the television, something you should be regulating anyway. i actually admire the fact that some of these teen shows (one tree hill, dawson’s creek) don’t treat teens as idiots. so stop undermining your kids’ intelligence and living in denial. talk to your kids about sex and respect and love.
lastly, i don’t understand parents going after these ads while they find it perfectly acceptable to allow their kids to see a PG-13 movie with equal amounts of sexual content. the sex in this show is so overrated. have any of these complaining parents actually watched the show? it’s more drama than sex. but sadly, sex sells. hence, the ads. most parents are allowing their kids to watch R-rated movies anyway. knocked up for example, one of the highest grossing and best-selling dvd’s of last year, has very VERY explicit content. and i guarantee most of these kids have seen it. because it was labeled a comedy.
don’t let labels and corporate-driven ads represent the actual content and value of the entertainment.
be a parent and talk to your kids instead of spending time complaining about overly sexual/violent ads, tv, movies and music.
