ellen degeneres announced today that she’s leaving american idol after one year. blah. i’m not gonna cry about it. ellen, i love ya. you’re a funny gal and i love your show. but as a judge…well you weren’t anything to write home about.

just another indication of how american idol is going down the drain.

what do you think about her departure?

here’s the statement she released:

“A couple months ago, I let FOX and the “American Idol” producers know that this didn’t feel like the right fit for me. I told them I wouldn’t leave them in a bind and that I would hold off on doing anything until they were able to figure out where they wanted to take the panel next. It was a difficult decision to make, but my work schedule became more than I bargained for. I also realized this season that while I love discovering, supporting and nurturing young talent, it was hard for me to judge people and sometimes hurt their feelings. I loved the experience working on “Idol” and I am very grateful for the year I had. I am a huge fan of the show and will continue to be.”

now, i’m not the biggest american idol fan out there. in fact, i haven’t watched it for a few years. but if i like someone, i watch it. as soon as i heard david archuleta sing john lennon’s “imagine,” arguably one of the best songs ever written, i was convinced. i mean, who would ever pick a song like that? it’s one of my all-time favorite songs, but it’s so easy to mess up. definitely a risk. but, he pulled it off flawlessly. and last night, he sung it again. smart choice. all i have to say is david archuleta better win tonight! he undoubtedly has the best voice and that is what it should be about. besides, am i the only one that thinks david cook is cocky as hell?

go achuleta! here’s the performance that literally gave me chills…

i’m not the biggest american idol fan, but my roomate watches it and she showed me jason castro’s performance from last week. he did a cover of “over the rainbow” with his ukulele and basically, it was amazing. so check it out…

teri, teri, teri. what were you thinking? trying to upstage carrie underwood? mrs. hatcher performed underwood’s famous “before he cheats” on american idol last night…bad idea. i gave her the benefit of the doubt because, hello, she chose a hard song! i figured she would at least have a decent voice. but c’mon, it’s carrie underwood! she has such great vocal range. wow, it was pretty terrible. and it’s sad because it’s not like her voice is all that bad. there are worse singers out there right now (i.e. every other actor turned singer), but she should have never have chosen that song. what humiliation. stick to being a housewife, teri. witness the disaster below.
