some (probably most) of my favorite actors come from our friendly northern neighbor. i don’t know why really. canada just seems to produce hot talented blood. so check out my top 7 actors from the maple leaf nation below…

7. matthew perry.

come on! it’s chandler. he’s always been my favorite friend. he’s cute. he’s hilarious. and he is always there when i need a pick-me-up. BING!

6. hayden christensen.

i’m not going to lie. most of my love for hayden lies in his adoableness. i’m not the biggest star wars fan, but he’s hard to ignore. rachel bilson is one lucky gal.

5. ryan reynolds

2009 was his year. and well-deserved. i’ve loved him ever since his just friends and van wilder days. his likability makes him one of the few actors who can make us laugh and pretty much get away with anything.

5. gregory smith

i admit it. i’m an everwood geek. and ok, i had a crush on gregory when he appeared in that zenon disney movie like 10 years ago. he’s just the brooding sarcastic hottie you can always empathize with.

4. ryan gosling

do we really need an explanation here? the notebook anyone? he’s charitable (darfur is his main cause) and for those of you that don’t know, he can sing. he was a mousketeer alongside britney, christina and justin in the early 90′s. full package.

3. cory monteith

my new crush. he jumped to the top of my adoration list real quick. his goofyness and tall stature makes him the lovable boy-next-door we all root for.

2. michael cera

from juno to nick and norah, and my personal fav—superbad, this guy knows how to hit his marks. dorky and awkward. hilarious and cute.

1. joshua jackson

there’s really no contest here. josh jackson has always been #1 to me. it’s embarrassing but i own every one of his movies. and we aren’t just talking the classic mighty duck series or my lovely dawson’s creek collection. we’re talking old-school cheesy remakes of romeo and juliet. for real. nonetheless, he’s amazingly talented (see: aurora borealis), effortlessly gorgeous and the kind of guy you can bring home to mom. well at least, diane kruger can.

oh, michael cera. how much i love you. honestly, with every movie i see, i like him more and more. he has the innate ability to be dorky, hilarious and completely adorable at the same time. it’s like, who wouldn’t want a michael cera? from arrested development to juno and superbad, he always delivers. i can’t get enough!

anyway, nick and norah was a cute offbeat kind of romance. there was hate, hitting and a strange underlying connection overpowered at first by jealousy and exes. was the movie amazing? no. but it was definitely entertaining and lovable. the lead actors definitely made the movie. the material wasn’t all that great, but the acting made it good. so yeah, if you are a fan of cera, you should check it out. just don’t go in expecting the humor level of superbad or the writing quality of juno.

i FINALLY saw juno. and you know i am enthusiastic when i use all caps. my roomate and i drove (and got lost) a half hour to catch it before it disappeared from theaters. it was a lot different than i was expecting, but definitely lived up to the hype. ellen page impressed the hell out of me. she was so raw and unrefined; she just came off so natural. and what can i say about michael cera? i love the kid. adorable and vulnerable and all that good stuff. he’s just one of those actors that can play the nerdy kid but still be so attractive at the same time.

the only story line that threw me off a lot was the attraction/flirtation between juno and mark (jason bateman’s character). i just felt so uncomfortable watching that. but, you know what? that actually makes the film more appealing to me. it evoked an emotion that is hard to evoke. sympathy, adoration, these are fairly easy to get out of the audience. but to make the audience feel awkward watching what’s on the screen, is noteworthy to me.

the writing was quite brilliant. the pop culture references and numerous allusions to old school bands just made it that much better. it wasn’t a forced kind of indie flick. i didn’t feel as though i was watching an attempt at making a cooler, non-commmercial movie. because that’s what happens. a big company with big directors realize that indie flicks are good. the stories are more realistic. the characters are relatable. the actors are usually a lot more flawed. and people love that. we don’t just like to see the picture perfect couple go through their ups and downs and then resolve everything. and the movie execs know this. they try to capitalize on it by throwing their names in the hat, trying to pick up on some of that success. but juno wasn’t that. sure, it was nominated for an oscar and got ridiculous amounts of press. but it was deserved. def one of my favorite films as of late.

i admit, i had my doubts after i was only mildly impressed by the somewhat overrated knocked up. but, i finally saw seth rogen’s very own superbad. and yes, i was laughing pretty much the entire movie. michael cera, aside from being absolutely adorable (and canadian!), surprised me. the friendship between he and jonah hill was just natural. sure, drunk and careless cops rolling around with an arrested hobo and a 17-year-old kid pretending to be 25 when he in fact looks 12, would just never happen. but the underlying story behind the movie is genuine and admirable.

and let me just say, the kid who plays mclovin was genius. his shaking nervous studdering persona was right on. (not to mention, his cameo in the “i’m fucking ben affleck” vid was classic). definitely one of the better-written comedies i’ve seen lately. i like watching extravagant and multi-layered plot lines play out just as much as anyone else and they can win you a bunch of stuff to sit upon your fireplace, but every once in a while we need to appreciate the simplicity of a story and how much it mirrors real life.

30 under 30.

wow, it’s been a crazy week, which explains my lack of updates. but, i do have plenty to talk about! one of my fav mags, entertainment weekly, always updates cool photo galleries on their site and i had to discuss the “30 under 30″ one, which highlights today’s hottest young actors. the list includes some of the best including jake, emile, elijah, ryan and hayden. and of course, the lovably adorable michael cera. yes, i STILL have yet to see juno, but spring break is next week so let’s hope it happens.

meanwhile, the list left out the one and only josh jackson! his former dawson’s costar michael pitt made the list. i never really liked him on the show, but i heard his film work is great.

anyway, another great gallery posted, is the “tv characters you’d date” and guess who made the top of the list, no contest. that’s right–jim halpert–the goofy prank-pulling salesman we all know and love.
