there are no words. i’m loving this gq cover with robert pattinson. and you can bet i’m going to be one of those dorks on line at target saturday buying twilight. not ashamed.

anyway, a friend of mine and i love the movie but haven’t seen it in years. finally, someone has uploaded the hilarity onto youtube. check it out. the first part is below and the rest are linked on youtube. sweeettt.

yes, i know it’s horrible. i STILL have not seen indiana jones. it’s been out for a while now and it’s getting pretty ridiculous. i’ve been working like crazy, but the wait is soon over. friday night has indy’s name written all over it. i heard it was disappointing, but i’m hopeful. stay tuned for my review!

as for shia, who i have a soft spot for, he was caught using a derogatory word ON camera a few years back. always comes back to bite ya. tsk tsk.

on another note, i was in the checkout line at target and saw this. as if i don’t have enough to save money for. damn impulse buys and hott guys.

anyway, i saw made of honor last week and was pleasantly surprised. don’t get me wrong, it is completely cheesy, predictable and stretches the point of believability oftentimes, but to me, it’s just hard NOT to watch. i mean, mcdreamy is the star. and we have him playing the opposite of his faithful and sensitive doctor on grey’s. here, he plays the play-boy who has his own set of rules when it comes to dating. he doesn’t like to see a girl two nights in a row, for example, and doesn’t seem to be settling down anytime soon. basically, he gets to play a sexy bad boy who really isn’t all that bad. his best friend and secret love hannah is about to get married to this bruting scottish fellow who is sickeningly perfect, who i don’t really find attractive. but i digress. as you can imagine, dempsey’s character tries to win over his best friend and finally profess his love. happy ending blah blah blah.

don’t see this movie if you are searching for a cinematic masterpiece, because trust me, it isn’t. but, if you like to indulge in the occasional predictable romantic comedy every once in a while like me, go ahead and see it with your girlfriends (fyi: you might not want to bring a guy to this). my advice? wait till it comes out for rental. the cheesy yet lovable factor will still be there. just with a lower price tag.

ben (jim sturgess) needs money for harvard med, so he resorts to teaming up with his corrupt professor, the object of his affection (kate bosworth, ugh.) and a few other miscreants. aaron yoo (shia’s sidekick in disturbia) played a klepto card-counting accomplice. i love that kid. he’s hilarious and c’mon, his hair is amazing. well anyway, despite some predictability in plot and kate bosworth’s horrific hair/acting, i enjoyed myself. def one of the better films i’ve seen this year so far (granted i haven’t seen many), which leads me to…

shutter. i wanted to like it. i really did. but i knew i wouldn’t. and i didn’t. i don’t like horror movies to begin with because they always achieve cliche status, but i went anyway. i can tell you as an avid joshua jackson fan that it wasn’t good. i mean, i get scared easily. very easily. and i wasn’t jumping out of my skin as i had hoped. the parts i did enjoy (i.e. josh half-naked) were few and far between.

i get it. he wants money. and roles. but, i dare say that was worse than cursed. and that was about werewolves for christ’s sake. such a shame because his acting wasn’t bad. it never really is. he’s a talented actor. but the script was just terrible. not to mention, i hated the ending. absolutely hated it. i won’t give it away, but prepare to be disappointed. i really wish he would just stick with indie films. the writing is better and so is the acting. ok, so you won’t make as much money and you won’t sky-rocket to a-list status, but you will keep your talent and dignity. and let’s face it, you won’t be making movies about werewolves and the paranormal. so, my recommendation for you movie-lovers is this: skip out on shutter and check out aurora borealis. a great movie and josh’s best, hands down.

side note: you have no idea how hard it was to write such a bad review for him. but, it had to be done. sadly.

oh, and i plan on renting across the universe asap. my new love for jim sturgess and my age-old love for the beatles needs to be fulfilled. that, and my sister has been bugging me to see it. she’s quite obsessed.

the only story line that threw me off a lot was the attraction/flirtation between juno and mark (jason bateman’s character). i just felt so uncomfortable watching that. but, you know what? that actually makes the film more appealing to me. it evoked an emotion that is hard to evoke. sympathy, adoration, these are fairly easy to get out of the audience. but to make the audience feel awkward watching what’s on the screen, is noteworthy to me.

the writing was quite brilliant. the pop culture references and numerous allusions to old school bands just made it that much better. it wasn’t a forced kind of indie flick. i didn’t feel as though i was watching an attempt at making a cooler, non-commmercial movie. because that’s what happens. a big company with big directors realize that indie flicks are good. the stories are more realistic. the characters are relatable. the actors are usually a lot more flawed. and people love that. we don’t just like to see the picture perfect couple go through their ups and downs and then resolve everything. and the movie execs know this. they try to capitalize on it by throwing their names in the hat, trying to pick up on some of that success. but juno wasn’t that. sure, it was nominated for an oscar and got ridiculous amounts of press. but it was deserved. def one of my favorite films as of late.

anyway, i was surprised that it was good. i had a feeling based on what my sister had told me that it was going to be a british ocean’s 11, which in a way it was. it wasn’t as elaborate, but still had a solid storyline (and it was based on the real bank robbery in london). i must admit that saffron burrows bothered me a bit as the female lead. maybe it was her character…she just seemed to overact a little bit. and i couldn’t get away from her resemblance to padma lakshmi (from top chef). jason statham was impressive as the lead thief and i appreciated the fact that the entire cast weren’t exactly lookers. that’s another reason i like british cinema. you get more real-looking people. not everyone is brad pitt, which is refreshing.

i won’t give away the ending or the twists in plot, but there were enough to keep you guessing and didn’t leave you confused (as did ocean’s 12, geez). the film was decent and i would probably give it 3.5 stars out of 5. it was entertaining and the acting was pretty good. the things i didn’t really like had to do with the story itself, which i can’t really fault the writers for since they were nonfictional events that they decided to keep for the sake of accuracy.

josh also recently talked with mtv about his batman auditions and how he would love to be in tobey mcguire’s shoes.

and let me just say, the kid who plays mclovin was genius. his shaking nervous studdering persona was right on. (not to mention, his cameo in the “i’m fucking ben affleck” vid was classic). definitely one of the better-written comedies i’ve seen lately. i like watching extravagant and multi-layered plot lines play out just as much as anyone else and they can win you a bunch of stuff to sit upon your fireplace, but every once in a while we need to appreciate the simplicity of a story and how much it mirrors real life.

stewart noted the dark themes of this year’s nominees to which he asked, “does this town need a hug? all I can say is, thank god for teen pregancy,” an obvious reference to juno (which won diablo cody best original screenplay).

later in the show he picked on the pregnant attendees (nicole kidman, cate blanchett and jessica alba), presenting them as nominees for a fake award. “and the baby goes to…angelina jolie!” jolie was not present nor has she officially confirmed her pregnancy, but she did recently show off her “baby bump” (as perez likes to call it) at an event.

as for the top-category winners, daniel day-lewis won for best actor in there will be blood, which i still need to see. in fact, i won’t comment much on any of the films, considering i’ve been in cinematic isolation the last year. nevertheless, this method actor impressed me with the 2-second clip they showed of his performance. now that’s saying something.

best actress went to the adorably gorgeous and french marion cotillard for her role in la vie en rose. it was nice to see her win as she was crying all the way up to the stage, throughout her speech and while walking off the stage. of course, she looked stunning even with tears falling down her face. charming.

the handsomely spanish javier bardem took home best supporting actor for his role in the cohen brother’s adaptation of no country for old men (which won them awards for best director and best adapted screenplay). before i go any further, am i crazy or does javier remind you of jeffrey dean morgan? i swear…if it wasn’t for the accent…

anyway, best supporting actress went to a seemingly shocked tilda swinton for her portrayal as a lawyer opposite george clooney in michael clayton. and finally, the pinnacle award of the night, best picture, went to no country for old men, which didn’t seem to surprise many.

one of the highlights of the show, for me at least, was jon mclaughlin’s performance of “so close” from the film enchanted. i don’t know the song itself, but i’m a big fan of jon. after having reviewed his album, i became an instant fan. both his songwriting and his abilities as a pianist are truly amazing, not to mention they embody something too often missing from artists in the industry nowadays.
